Movie Review: Masked and Anonymous

I'm almost sure this movie is good. If it is good, it's because it hangs in that place were it exists in it's own world. Also, this movie can be best described as someone trying to make a movie out of a Bob Dylan song, not any praticular Bob Dylan song, but whatever this movie is about Bob Dylan has something important to do with it. This is due to the fact Bob Dylan co-wrote and acts in the film.
The basic plot of the film is that Bob Dylan, AKA Jack Fate, AKA Bob Dylan has been released from prison to do a benefit concert, a shaddy benefit concert, but still he's out of prison. Fate lives in what looks like something that is kind of the United States, but has a feel like a South American Bananna Republic. After that all the characters talk they way you'd expect characters to talk in a movie co-wrote by Bob Dylan (it's great), a pretty good soundtrack featuring Bob Dylan songs is played (it's great), encounter various characters bouncing off each other (it's alright), and a bunch of scenes involving political and philsophical discourse.
In all this, I like this movie. This is probubly because I'm a Bob Dylan fan, and despite the fact this is a very minor movie I feel compelled to it because this is more or less the kind of feel I want for the Naos and Helen novel. It's the same basic world, has the same feel and also Bob Dylan is in it. This must be what William Gibson felt after seeing Blade Runner. Because of this alone I'd put Masked and Anonymous up there with The Big Lebowski as one of my favorite movies. (Interesting note, both Jeff Bridges and John Goodman appear in this movie).
To end off I'm putting up this youtube video which has Bob Dylan and his back-up band singing "Cold Irons Bound," another reason to see this movie.

Friday Youtube Videos (Eastern European Special)

Since the reason I got this new format was to make watching the new wide screen Youtube videos I thought I'd do a special on Youtube videos.
First is the newest sensation, a Ukrainian polka band covering Katy Perry's "Hot'n'Cold." It's like listening to Katy Perry but without feeling embarrassed for listening to Katy Perry. Because it's polka.
Yeah, polka.
Alright, and after that I want to show you a band I discovred called Daniel Kahn and the Painted Bird. They're Jewish folk band and they are awesome. I don't know if it's just me, but Yiddish is a beautiful sounding language.

Well, it can't get no worse

Saw Pippin last night. You know, that musical that is so big with teenagers. It's got dancing and spectacle, existential angst. I have to say that I enjoyed it for what it was, but normally I wouldn't see something like this. I'm honestly not that big on big spectacle things. Also, the end freaked me out a bit. I won't give it out, but I almost got into a shouting match with one of the characters. My parents, who are probubly reading this now, would be surprised by this but I was feeling a bit threatened. Since the play broke the fourth wall so many times I feel I am justified in this a bit.
Also, while I was waiting for my cousin to get back I ended up impailing my left hand with a pencil, largelly by accsident. My mom says it's a miracle that I was able to go so long wih so many pencils without this happening. I wouldn't say it was traumatic, but it happened very fast and my hand still hurts.

Job Search Update

Yesterday was a day of job searching, or at least dropping of resumes at various resturaunts. I think the main reasons I'm looking into resturaunts is that it was what my parents suggested. I'm a sucker for doing what my parents say. This is probubly a positive or negative trait depending on who you are. On the one hand, I could be living under my parents wings to much, but on the other end they do have good advise most of the time. Like "When your in a social situation, watch people and do what they do," or "Get out of my room, it's 2:30 in the morning."
Rowan, who is one of my older friends, gave me alot of ideas when we ran into each other. He's saying that since I'm so good at using words I should find a job with a newspaper or at City Hall or something like that. He also suggested that I hook up with one of those stores in town that sells bracelets and stuff and busk, which sounded cool but I think I'll try something else since I don't think it can get me to the kind of money I'd like. The paper ideas sound like a good idea. Rowan also said that I'm a really good wordsmith, which is nice because I was worrying about that.
Today, I am hanging out at Revel, not that I have anything I can buy food with or anyone to meet, but because this is the only place my laptop gets internet and I'm guying Itunes music. I'm trying to decide whether I should get a Tom Waits album or an Andrea Gibson album. On the one hand, I have alot of Tom Waits albums and nothing by Andrea Gibson, but on the other I really like this album, by Dad has it on vinyl and I like liseaning to it. But again, this album is available on vinyl, and I may be getting tired of it as it is. Also, I don't have alot of spoken word stuff, just two albums by Burroughs and an album of Kerouac that also features his bad singing. I could have bought both, but I also bought a Billy Childish album, since I have had my eye on that for a long time. I still don't know which one to choose, so I'm going to leave this blog and get back to that problem. See you folks latter.

No Summer Job so I Start Writing Stupid

Because of my coming assent into the world of University and academia, I am not going to be searching for a summer job. This means I am still living off my parents money for books and Itunes. I used my Itunes money to by two albums of off Itunes. Blood on the Tracks, by Bob Dylan and Hunky Dory, by David Bowie. I enjoy both albums alot. If I was a musician, then I'd make albums like this, where all the songs are really good and you need to lisean to them all at the same time for it to be really good. Maybe I could do that for short stories and poems and things.
On the subject of writing, I am getting on the Last Dance Revolution train again. I decided that I need to write it from a different perspective. To do that I am going to write part of it as a biography of Naos and Helen. I got the ide from reading about this book called Lint by a guy called Steve Aylett. It's about a cult writer who never existed. I think that's a pretty interesting idea, since cult writers generally lead very interesting lives. I don't really know how I'll do this, maybe the biographer will be some version of myself or some really odd Gonzo Hyunter S. Thompson type person who's writing this from an insane asylum.
I've been wondering what I should do with this blog once I become a famous writer. I was thinking I'd get my own website or something and link to it. The website would basically give updates to when my next book will be out. I'd concentrate on my blog mostly, or start another blog. By that time I'd be using my actual name instead of my some-what unimaginative screen name.

Am I Mankind's Only Hope Or Am I Crazy?

Well, I got an Ipod for Christmas and it's pretty cool. I got 519 songs approxematly on it at the moment, and I'll have at least twenty more unless I can find a decent CD. Most of the stuff is pretty recent, but most of it's pretty mainstream which sucks. So I'm probubly just going to see if I can't track down the soundtracks to Quentin Tarantino movies because you know he's always got good music. I've got the soundtrack to Kill Bill Vol II up at the moment, which looks promising. What I'd really like is a soundtrack to the Big Lebowski, but I don't know if that's going to happen.
Wow, okay I did a bunch of stuff and now I am apparently downloading the Lebowski pod cast, being a podcast all about the Big Lebowski. It's free which is great and very "dude" of them.
Okay, so I was reading Mondo Primo's blog, about how Norman Mailer is dead and how he was a really great guy and how things are really screwed up and I was wondering if I could do something about this. Most people say I shouldn't worry about it, but If I don't worry about it then how am I supposed to worry about it. The problem is should I even be worried that people are becoming less social. I'm autistic, god damn it, if this keeps up then my people will be your suppreme overlords and then you NTs are going to have to follow our irrational rules. But that dosn't mean I don't want to socialize, I just think it would be nice if things where more authentic. Ah, I don't even now what I'm talking about. Forget it.
I'd like to say hi to Shelia, and thanks for coming back. We really missed you. I sent you an e-card but I don't think you got it. Be seeing you.

Six more days till my birthday

I have made a great discovery today. I know now what being embarrassed is like. Embarrassing is when your mother takes you underwear shopping. Now I know what my sister Delila feels every time I'm with her. After my dad explained this to me I commented on the heads on sticks, since I thought that was cool.
I'm starting to wonder if my inability to understand embarrassment will be a hindrance when I start dating. What am I saying, it probably will and I'm not just saying that because my dad is looking over my shoulder while I write this. (Hi Dad!). Hm, that may be what clinks it. Maybe my romantic delusions will be of some help after all. Huzzah.
And I'm writing this because I was watching Fight Club, which puts me in a Loncrow state of mind I guess and not the kind where I get exhausted after he comes over. I guess Tyler Durden(Brad Pitt's character) is just the kind of guy I see Loncrow as turning into at some point, or someone like Tyler. I'm not sure how Loncrow would take that.
I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever see Loncrow again. I don't have his contact and I haven't chatted with him on MSN for quite awhile. Maybe I could e-mail him or something, see if he can come over. I hope he hasn't lost my copy of Invisibles, Vol 2.
Okay, my birthday is on the 10th, and I need to get my list done so my folks have an idea of what to get me. So here it is people, Writer's birthday list.
  • Oriental Adventures, 3.5 version preferably.
  • Move Under Ground, by Nick Mamatas
  • The First Third, by Neal Cassady
  • Neal Cassady: Collected Letters 1944-1967, by Neal Cassady
  • A new Ipod with a higher song storage. My current Mp3 holds up to 300 songs
  • Donnie Darko, director's cut
  • Any of Neil Gaiman's Sandman books, except for Books 1 (Preludes and Nocturnes),3 (Dream Country) and 6 (Fables and Reflections) as I've already read those. Book Two would be preferable

And that's all I can think up. That's all. Thanks for reading. Be seeing you.

Captains Log stardate hamafa#%7fa

I need two things done for tomorrow, the research for my Aristotle (no problem there. It's basically done) and my Halloween costume. This is going to be a little harder then I thought. I'm going to be Hunter S. Thompson, so I'll need a cigarette holder and sunglasses of some kind. I've already got a Hawaiian shirt and a hat to cover my hair (Hunter S. Thompson was bald). The idea is to get one of my pencils, cover it in paper and hope someone falls for it. I'm a little disappointed, but what are you going to do.
So the Animal Rights thing went well. I got a good mark, but the prize for best presentation went to Capital Punishment. Still, Cloning was the worst. That bit from The Island made no sense, I know the movie was about cloning but the scene they chose didn't work at all. Anyway, we ran out of time and I still don't know if I should become a vegetarian or a vegan or something. Still, I think the PETA may be a little nuts.
Well, Sunday I went to the Record Show with my dad and bought my very first vinyl album, In Search of Space by Hawkwind. I also picked up four new CDs and two movies. And now the official list.

  • In Search of Space, by Hawkwind. Vinyl.
  • The Resevoir Dogs Soundtrack
  • Tragic Kingdom, No Doubt. I got this last time but it was in very poor condition.
  • Billion Dollar Babies, by Alice Cooper. (We're not worthy. We're not worthy.)
  • Sex Mob does Bond. Jazz album of covers for Bond music. Pretty cool.
  • The Holy Mountain, by Alejandro Jodorowsky. I showed this at the Cartoon and Comic club but it freaked them all out. One guy noted that the dwarf with no hands or feet was "screwed for life," and many of them said they didn't know what was going on.
  • A documentary on Alejandro Jodorowsky that the guy who sold me Holy Mountain gave me for free since he saw I was a Jodorowsky fan.
And I saw Death Proof, which I will know talk about because I thought it was a pretty cool movie. If you don't like really violent pics with blood and limbs coming of you shouldn't watch it. But if you don't mind it, it's a pretty good flick. The basic story is about a guy called Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russel), who at first seems like a charming guy who used to be in the Stunt driving buisness. But when you really get to know him you realize that he's a sick, sick man who kills women with his car. We go through two groups of girls. Group One spend most of their time talking and stuff like that, and are then all killed by Stuntman Mike. Since this was a Tarantino movie the dialouge was pretty good and I really felt sorry for them when they died horribly. But then Stuntman Mike got his commupins when he tried to pull the same stunt (no pun intended) on Group Two, which was made up of a bunch of girls in the stunt buisness.
I've been noticing that Quentin Tarantino seems to have a pretty narrowed range as an actor. For those of you who don't know, yes Quentin Tarantino acts. I think. Usually he's a pretty ratty guy. In every movie I've seen him in he comes of at varrying degrees of some dirty disgusting guy who deals crack or something. Observe....
  • Resevoir Dogs. We don't get to see much of Tarantino's character Mr.Brown in this, but we do get the Madonna Speech. Nuff said.
  • Pulp Fiction, In this Tarantino's character, I think he's called Jimmy, is a down to earth guy who never the less has mob ties as Vincent(John Travolta) and Jules(Samuel L. Jackson), both take refuge at his house when Vincent really screws things up. One of Tarantino's less ratty roles, but he's involved in organized crime somewhere.
  • From Dusk till Dawn, Don't know much about this movie. Never seen it, but I know that Tarantino is a murder-rapist in it.
  • Desperado, Tarantino's character dosn't have a name in this, but he's involved in a drug deal. I also think that Rodriguez wrote the part in for Tarantino.
  • Planet Terror, Quentin Tarantino appears again in a Rodriguez film. In the credits he's called "Rapist."
  • Death Proof, appears as a bar tender, can't remember the character's name. Approachably ratty.
So why does Quentin Tarantino appear as a ratty guy? I think that's because he's a bit of a ratty guy in real life and he's not that good of an actor. Which is probubly why I'm basing Haikren's dialouge in my novel on Tarantino's speech patterns. Actually, in the mind that plays in my mind for the movie, Tarantino plays Harold/Haikren. I don't know how he'd think of that.
And that's all I've got for know. I need to look up some stuff for homework.

The Aristotle, New Bookshelves and Alicia Silverstone emerging nude from a swimming pool

Again, I was lazy about posting. But no matter, today I will fill you in.
Mom and Dad finally decided not only to get me a new bookshelf, but two book shelves. So since Delila was of in Niagara for a theatre thing, we packed the car up with the remaining people in the family and drove to Ikea. Then we went to Chapters and then Outback Steakhouse.
The Chapters was okay. I got a copy of Stephen King's On Writing and an anthology of speculative fiction written by people of African descent. It's called Dark Matter. I also found a really big book of William Blake's poetry, but it was way to expensive.
In School news, I've only recently gotten started on a thing called the Aristotle. It's basically a philosophy essay I have to write and will take me most of the class. My EA, who has been brought out of the wood works, keeps bugging me about doing it. Considering the fact I don't really have any work done on it I suppose she has a point. I'm also doing a study on animal rights, which is opening up a whole can of worms for me. I'm wondering if I should become a vegetarian or just kill my own meat.
On the subject of recent news, it turns out that famous person I've never heard of, Alicia Silverstone has joined with PETA to promote vegetarianism. The video she cut with them is of her emerging from a swimming pool naked and then the words goveg.com appear on the screen. While I have no real quarrel with nudity in general, there is something of seducing people into vegetarianism in this. I'm not saying becoming a vegetarian or vegan is bad, but the video doesn't really have anything to do with swearing of your meats. It's just a very attractive woman naked and then goveg.com on the end. It's hilarious once you think of it, but what about the people who can't read. They will loose the meaning completely.
Also, my new favorite song is the Gipsy King's version of Hotel California. From now on the song should only be played in Spanish. If you haven't heard this song it's on the soundtrack to the Big Lebowski in the scene where we first meet the Dude's bowling rival, Jesus.

They cancelled Little Steven's Underground Garage so know I have to listen to archived shows that is if my little sister isn't on the computer. DAMN!

Recently, Little Steven's Underground Garage has ceased to be played on my local radio. As I am a big fan of this particular radio program, I am greatly disappointed. I should probably call them about it. Anyway, this has caused a great change in my calendar. On Sundays, when I knew that I would be able to listen to Little Steven's Underground Garage and I wouldn't feel so bad. Now, I just lay in my bed and await the inevitable. Come to think of it, listening to Little Steven's Underground Garage is probably one of the ten top ways I would like to die.
Does this mean that I can't listen to Little Steven's Underground Garage? No, I can listen to archived shows on the Internet (see link). But I have to listen to it the moment I get home because my sister tends to bring a friend home most days, thus interrupting the episode. Except for today when I forgot to put it on. So know I have to wait until tomorrow because I also have a mind load of philosophy homework.
School has been going well. I'm bonding with alot of people at the art table and I'm going to get on to my first piece of art "The Extinction of the First Kingdom of Yazan," this week. I also need to figure out what my next pieces of art will be.
Well, that's all I care to mention today. Be seeing you.

Forgot to post on the 5th. Sorry :(

Oh my God, I used a frowny internet face. What am I comming to?
Anyway, as the post says I failed to live up to my new goal of posting on the 5th, 7th, 19th and 23rd of each day of the month. I sincerly apologize, and promise that I will find something to post about tomorrow.
I just thought that I'd make a 23 watch. Every month I could post some new stuff I learned about the number 23, most likely on the 23rd. Gives this blog more of a purpose beyond being the place where I post all kinds of stuff for all to see. It could also show that I am getting more and more obsessed with a seemingly random number.
On the subject of Last.fm, I think it's been a pretty good deal. I've bookmarked a tag radio for 60's garage rock and Surf music, which is partially inspired by liseaning to Little Steven's Underground Garage (see link). I've also found out alot about new bands such as Aprodite's Child and.... well, Aphrodite's Child is the only one I've got so far, oh wait Curved Air. That band is pretty cool. Still, I'm probubly going to by the concept Album Aphrodite's Child did on the Book of Revelations, 666.
I've been thinking alot about the 1960's storyline. The way I see it the first really important novel is going to be about how the various characters try and create a new society, what with the fact most of them are drop-outs, where forced out or are wanted dead by there previous societies. The way I see it, I've got alot of people with verging world views. Here's a list of the kinds of people who inhabit the Commune or whatever it's going to end up.
  • Artists, this includes painters, writers, mucisians. People like Roland Morningstar and David Howl. I'm also thinking Moon is going to have some kind of artistic talent, probubly an actor as I don't have any of those in.
  • Off-beat and Radical Politicals, At the moment I've got one Trotskyist and a small group of Black Nationalists. Since the Trotskyist, Abraham Nakamura, comes in with the grand majority of Black Nationalists, they might have Communist sympathys. Probubly Abe's girlfriend is one of the Black Nationalists. Yeah, I like that idea.
  • Religious Seekers and Mystics, This would include various people in a spiritual crisis and the people who are not. Roland qualifies as a seeker, as do a lot of the characters on some level. Mystics would be the people who are already at a stage, and know more of what's going on then most of the other characters. This would be people like Are'do, Rachel, Yeshua and Sophia. On another level, Yeshua is also a seeker, but for way different reasons then anyone else.
  • Hippies, most of the characters are hippies or are at least very close. I think David is more of a beat really, which is why I dropped the "e" out of his last name. See Howl. Come to think of it, the story I'm writting about him shares many similarities to the poem.
Well, that's all I've got to write about. I'm going to stop writing this now for I have grown bored. I promise to write about something tomorrow though.

BBC official Hawkwind documentary

Hey, I found this awhile back. I meant to put it up eventually, so now I did. Here's everything you wanted to know about Hawkwind

Practically out

Well, as you know I have been feeling very small and lonely. You'll be pleased to hear that I have exponetially increased my MSN contacts. Bad news is that nobody is on at the moment.
In the meanwhile, I'll be officially out of school by Friday afternoon. I just need to get my co-op project done, which it half is already. I am feeling very good about myself today. I plan on having a big celebration after getting out of school. I'm going to see if I can talk my mom into driving me to a used bookstore and seeing if I can't get myself the first book of the Illuminatus trilogy.
I just have to get my exam done in History and then I'm set. I'm not overly worried about it, because I feel I got it under control. Still, this isn't my best class. I'm going to have to look over the French Revolution and the reign of Napoleon.
I'm really enjoying Last.fm. Again, thanks to Dan for introducing me. I just found all these cool examples of tracks by genres. I'm going through surf rock at the moment. I'm liseaning to a really cool version of "Walking on the Moon," by somebody called getAmped. But then when I clicked on it to see who they were I lost track of the thing. Curses. So, last.fm isn't perfect.
I can't write anymore, I'm going to go hide in my room

Last.fm

So recently I've discovered the wonder of what is last.fm, thanks Dan. It's been really great. I've discovered this band called Aphrodite's Child, which is a Greek progressive rock band that did a concept album on the Book of Revelations in the 60's or early 70's.
So anyway, I'm working on a playlist. This playlist should have a bunch of songs on it and I'll be able to put it on my blog. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Summer is coming up fast

I just turned on my new yahoo radio station. The song it started out with is "Cocaine" by Eric Clapton. It said it was suggested for me. I really like that it makes me feel special.
So, we've been watching a movie called Le Dernier Combat in Writer's Craft so we could write a review for it. I don't really like it that much because it made me fall asleep. They're was literally no dialouge except for two people saying "bonjour." The basic plot is that the world has collapsed and you have a guy wandering around. At some point he's trapped in an abandoned hospital with a doctor and a girl and outside is this guy who's going to kill them. For some reason nobody can talk and society has broken down. It's really weird. If you want to see it go ahead, but make sure you get alot of sleep before you do.
On another note, I found the coolest book at the Library. You know that book 1001 places you must see before you die? Well, I found one that's called 1001 Books you must read before you die. I was going to put up more of a post about it, but Delila needs to do some homework, so I have to get off. I'll get back you you guys on it as soon as possible.

Bunch of cool YouTube videos

Hey, So I was fiddling around on YouTube, when I saw a bunch of interesting things. I've decided to gather together a bunch of YouTube related things and put them up as a post. Her we have K-Os, live on Letterman.

And here's a treat. Michael Moore without his hat.

Turns out he's making a new movie about America's sucky health care system. This is a great trailer.

I've really meant to get into Hawkwind ever since I learned of there relation to Michael Moorcock. I got one of there albums, but I'm a little uncertain as to how it was made. It's called Masters of the Universe and the list of songs is a little off. I wonder if it's a bootleg or something sometimes.
Anyway, here's Hawkwind. If I had a band, it would probubly look alot like this and be called Gunslynger.

And that's all I've got. Bye.
